This is the AD7VL version of the classic 'spud gun' that hams use to cast a fishing line over talls trees and raise wire antennas. This design took me about ~$40 in Home Depot parts to assemble and a ~$10 WalMart casting reel. With about 40lbs of pressure in the 'accumulator', I have been able to accurately launch a tethered projectile over ~100ft trees. Fun project. Includes photos.
Before your club decides to put up a repeater, learn what you're getting into. It ain't cheap.
A QST article on how to build an K0EOU 80M broadband antenna array, using your tower as the supporting ground. Called a 'Half Sloper' or "Wermanger', it is omnidirectional, VERY broadbanded, and decent for DX, although very little gain. This article is copyright of ARRL's QST magazine.
I was BIG into Packet Radio from 1984 until 1995. The mode is dead, and I'm amazed at hams who keep trying to resurrect it under the guise of emergency services. Let it Rest In Peace, PLEASE!
This is DX Engineering's definitive guide to the Hustler 4/5/6BTV series of multiband vertical antennas. This manual is far more detailed than even the original manufacturer's instructions, and includes tips on improving performance, tuning, and aftermarket additions.
It's happening all around us. Hams are controlling their shacks while sitting on the beach. Remote control is the future.
It started with radioteletype (RTTY). FT8 is the latest, and is taking over. What is all this stuff on HF?
Where did the FT8 mode come from, why, and how do I set it up?
Excellent demo of setting up the N1MM contest logging software for use during the annual Salmon Run. Credit to N9ADG.
